The Official Site of Ankarana

Born under the sea million years ago, the National park Ankarana covers a surface of 18.000 ha.
Its network of caves, underground rivers and canyons extends in the middle of dry and green forests.
On the surface erosion engraved of the “Tsingy” limestones with the sharp-edged peaks, while in depth the underground water supply network longest of Africa (110 km) was formed.
The speologists indexed here 11 principal caves of which some are crowned containing bus of the royal burials. In the galleries developed stalactites, stalagmites, hélectites and other draperies of calcite from which the folds fall like those from a fabric.

Ankarana shelters 11 species of lemurs, 92 species of birds of which the very rare Lord Varié, 60 species of reptiles and Amphibians, and more half of bat of the island. This solid mass combines the richnesses of a calcareous mineral world to the variety of its ecosystems, and has a cultural role of very first plan.
